"Miguel Luengo-Oroz, Passionate about using data science and technology for public good. He has experience building and leading multicultural teams innovating to create data driven solutions to address global challenges. Miguel is Chief Data Scientist at UN Global Pulse, an innovation initiative at the Executive Office of the United Nations Secretary-General, harnessing Big Data safely and responsibly as a public good for sustainable development and humanitarian action. As the first data scientist at the UN, he has pioneered the use of big data (social, mobile, financial, postal, ...) to answer traditional development related questions. Miguel is the founder of MalariaSpot.org at the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid- a social innovation platform that leverages videogames, crowdsourcing, artificial intelligence and mobile-microscopy for diagnosis of malaria and other global health diseases. He has co-authored more than 30 scientific publications - including in top journals as Science. He is a biomedical image analysis and bio-inspired algorithm design expert. He has given invited lectures in institutions as MIT, the Royal Geographical Society in London or Cambridge University. He has experience in policy debates about data, privacy and digital agendas. He speaks frequently to non-technical audiences- eg. TEDx in the Palais des Nations at the UN; or Festival Internacional de Innovación Social in Chile. He writes about antidisciplinary science at El Huffington Post. Miguel is Ashoka fellow, MIT TR35, GSP from Singularity University at NASA, holds a PhD and MSc in biomedical / telecommunications engineering from the Technical University of Madrid and a MSc in Cognitive Sciences from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales de Paris."
