Prof. Arsuaga obtained a PhD in Biological Sciences from Universidad Complutense, Madrid. He is the current Director of Centro de Evolución y Comportamiento Humanos (Univ. Complutense de Madrid-Instituto de Salud Carlos III), the Chair of Palaeontology in Universidad Complutense, Madrid, and holds the position of Scientific Director of the Museo de la Evolución Humana in Burgos. Prof. Arsuaga is also Doctor Honoris Causa in Universidad de Burgos and Polytechnic University in Valencia. Arsuaga is co-director of the excavations at the sites of Atapuerca (Burgos) and Pinilla del Valle (Madrid), and has received the Principe de Asturias award for Scientific and Technical Research in 1997, among other accolades. Arsuaga has authored many scientific papers in prestigious journals including Nature, Science, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and was associate editor of Journal of Human Evolution. He has also authored a number of popular books including “El collar del neandertal”, “La especie elegida”. He was also the host and screenwriter of the documentary “La España Prehistórica”. Arsuaga has been keynote speaker in many prestigious international meetings including the “GHR Von Koeniswald” in Senckenberg Forschungsinstitut de Frankfurt am Main in 2015. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, USA.
