"María Rosa Zapatero Osorio is an astrophysicist of the Spanish Council for Research at the Center for Astrobiology. She obtained her PhD at the University of La Laguna, Tenerife, in 1997 and has been working as a full-time researcher at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), California Institute of Technology (Caltech), and Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Aeroespacial (INTA) before joining the Spanish Council for Research in 2009. She is part of the team that discovered the first brown dwarf in 1995, and she is the leading author of the discovery of the first free-floating planets in 2000. She has published over 120 peer-reviewed papers in highly recognized international journals, including Science and Nature, and has tens of oral presentations, including invited reviews, in international workshops and congresses. Today, she belongs to the science teams of CARMENES and ESPRESSO, two state-of-the-art high-resolution, ultra-stable spectrographs that are built with the purpose of detecting rocky planets in the habitable zones of solar-type and cooler stars."
