Latin America and the Caribbean: adjusting under pressure

Krishna Srinivasan is currently a Deputy Director in the We stern Hemisphere Department (WHD) of the International Monetary Fund (I MF). In this capaci ty, he oversees the institution’s work on several countries—incl uding Bolivia, Brazil, C anada, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua—and the Department’s research acti vities and its flagship product, Regional Economic Outlook (REO) for the Western Hemi sphere. Prior to this, he was in the European Department, serving as the IMF’s mission chief for the United Kingdom and Israel, and before that in the Research Department, where he led the IMF’s work on the G- 20. He was the lead editor of a recent IMF book Global Rebalancing: a Roadmap for Economic Recovery (with Hamid Faruqee). Kris hna has been with the IMF since 1994 and has served in various capacities across t he International Capital Markets, Policy Development and Review, Afri can and Asian departments. He secured his PhD in International Finance from Indiana University and a Masters from the Delhi School of Economics, India, and has published seve ral papers both at the IMF and in leading academic journals.
