Timo Koivurova is a Research Professor and the Director of the Northern Institute for Environmental and Minority Law, Arctic Centre/University of Lapland. He is also a Docent of International Law at the Faculty of Law, Economics and Business Administration/University of Eastern Finland and at the Faculty of Law/University of Turku. Research professor Timo Koivurova has specialized in various aspects of international law applicable in the Arctic and Antarctic region. In 2002, Koivurova's doctoral dissertation "Environment al impact assessment in the Arctic: a Study of International Legal Norms was published by Ashgate. Professor Koivurova has been and is involved in many international research projects. Professor Koivurova is also a board member in the Arctic Research Consortium of the United States (ARCUS) and the board member of the Iceland’s President new forum the Arctic Circle. Professor Koivurova serves also in its study-group of due diligence and as a co-rapporteur of its Committee on the Implementation of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. He is a Chair-elect, IUCN Polar Law Taskforce, IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law
