Gonçalo Vieira is Associate Professor at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon, Senior researcher and member of the Board of Directors at the Centre for Geographical Studies. He integrates the research group on Climate Change and Environmental Systems, where he coordinates the Geocryology team. His main research interests are on the effects of a changing climate on permafrost environments. He has conducted several permafrost and periglacial research projects in the Antarctic, Svalbard, sub-Arctic Canada, the Patagonian Andes, the High Atlas and the Portuguese mountains.
