Félix M. Goñi (San Sebastian, Spain, 1951) received his MD from the University of Navarra in 1975. He went to London (Royal Free Hospital) for his post-doctoral work under D. Chapman. From 1978 he has been a Lecturer, then a Professor of Biochemistry at the University of the Basque Country in Bilbao from 1984. In 1999 he founded the Biophysics Unit, a joint centre of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of the Basque Country, of which he was Head in 2002-2015. He is currently a Professor of Biochemistry and a Group Leader at the Biophysics Institute, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate students, and leads a research group. His research interests are in Membrane Biophysics, particularly in the physical properties of sphingolipids, lipid-protein interactions, and the use of physical techniques in Biology. The Physical Chemistry of surfactants has also been the object of his attention for years. He has been President of the Spanish Biophysical Society (1995-2000), and has chaired the International Relations committee of the U.S. Biophysical Society (2011-2016).
